Motorcycle Recalls

NOBers I have a subscription to many magazines, however, one that I find very good is Consumer News. Each month there is a section that talks about manufacturers' recalls. This month for those of you who ride Connie 1400 there is a recall for your bike. It is brakes, pedals and linkages. It may lead to brake failure. Kawasaki has not come up with a way to address. Those of you who own the bike should call 866-802-9381 to discuss this matter. I will continue to keep you advised. In the future I will attempt to warn each of you of potential recalls for your respective bikes.

  1. I believe there is also a Yamaha Recall for 06-09 FJR1300. The recall is for ignition switch failures. Apparently the ignition switch can fail without notice (even while at speed) causing completely elctrical shutdown (no power, no lights, nothing).

If you have an affected bike (need to check with Yamaha based on VIN) Yamaha will supposedly replace your switch free of charge. What is not clear is if they have re-engineered it or are just replacing it with another one which could also fail. Who knows. I learned how to hot wire mine just in case ;-)
